AIMS
Technology is a dominant force in today’s society. Technology education helps young people to live and work in a technological world. Computer & Technology includes both design and technological studies. Presented with technological problems that are clearly stated and related to their lives, students are taught to do hands-on and exploratory design work with different materials and to apply their knowledge in problem-solving activities.
Some of the characteristics of Computer & Technology are listed as follows:
- Develop computer literacy by introducing fundamental concepts of computer and information technology to prepare for taking the elective subject of NSS ICT.
- Teach skills that will be useful in the wider world of work.
- Provide basic competence needed for technological activities.
- Develop positive attitudes towards lifelong learning.
- Develop integration and application of skills across areas.
- Develop appropriate interpersonal skills and attitudes for working.
- Discover how technology has changed society and the workplace.
- Develop generic skills such as critical thinking, communication and creativity.
OBJECTIVES
- Computer & Technology is a subject for junior secondary students of all abilities. Our primary objective is to provide an opportunity for students to interact with computers and understand what the computer can do and what cannot be done.
- This subject is intended to give students a general awareness of the range of tasks that computers affect humans and society. Moreover, to appreciate the advancement brought about by the widespread use of computers and information technology to support their lifelong learning.
- Students should be able to acquire simple programming skills. Moreover, students will be taught to develop and establish the logical thinking of programming skills in order to get ready for learning a high-level programming language.
- Students should understand the basic principles of operation for computer systems and common computing terminology.
- Students should acquire fundamental knowledge about computer applications.
- Students should be able to use common office automation application software packages to carry out tasks such as formal report writing.
- Students should be aware of social issues related to computer applications and information technology.
